Comprehensive e-Learning System

The “Comprehensive e-Learning System” Project, which was undertaken as part of Invitation No. 98 of the “Information Society” Operational Programme, coordinated by Associate Professor M. Santorinaios and funded by the European Union and the Greek State, is an extension of the “Advanced Telematic Services” and “E-Learning Suite Equipment” projects, which were part of the same Operational Programme.

The Project significantly improved both the facilities and the functionality of the teleconference room. In addition, applications and supporting services were designed and developed, which complete and enhance the function and capacity of the Athens School of Fine Arts e-Learning Suite.

The main objective of the project was to enable all members of the academic community to make the best possible use of the existing infrastructure, and to incorporate the e-Learning Suite into the School’s educational process. This was accomplished by introducing internet and telematics technologies into the educational process, and by creating a comprehensive distance learning environment. In addition, and in order to ensure the smooth running of the Suite, the School is planning to develop a number of value added services, including a room timetable and a reservations service.

The project also included the development of a dedicated website for the support and automation of supporting tasks of the teleconference room, and a system of asynchronous e-learning, which utilised the GU-NET e-class platform.

The ASFA teleconference room is fully equipped with the latest technology to meet the requirements of distance learning.
